Thiotrithiazyl Nitrate, N3S4NO3

Thiotrithiazyl Nitrate, N3S4NO3, may be obtained by dissolving thiotrithiazyl chloride in concentrated nitric acid and evaporating the yellow liquid produced in a vacuum. It forms long, yellow, transparent, prismatic crystals, which become opaque after several days and acquire the odour of sulphur dioxide and the oxides of nitrogen. It is explosive. Its solution in water is yellow at first, but quickly becomes opaque, depositing a black substance mixed with a large amount of sulphur.
